As keen supporters of the wind, rain and sun we were delighted to have the full range of ‘renewable energy’ raw materials thrown at us during our recent Team event in Argyll.
Arriving in Oban in a fleet of EV cars we paid a visit to the site of the Company’s recently approved Green Hydrogen production facility on Glenshellach Industrial Estate. Paul who has been leading the Hydrogen work, gave a presentation to colleagues about the successful planning application and where various components would be located e.g. the electrolysers and HGV filling station. We were grateful for the GreenPower marquee sheltering us as the rain came down.
After lunch in Oban, it was off to Brander Lodge for our Team Building session lead by CEO, Rob Forrest. Over the last few months GreenPower’s Directors had engaged with staff to refresh our mission statement to reflect the Company’s move towards producing Hydrogen fuel alongside our renewable energy generation.
“To provide the green power and green fuels that enable our customers to make the transition away from fossil fuels.”
Rob reaffirmed GreenPower’s core values and set out some ‘Goals’ and ‘Objectives’ for each sector of the business. Rob also announced that there would be a big recruitment drive within all areas of the business. Line Managers will have a key role to play in recruitment and in ensuring their Teams focus on the priorities and goals the Business has set.
After an enjoyable evening of socialising with colleagues and a good night’s sleep it was off to Carraig Gheal to hear about our flag ship project and take a look inside one of the turbines. The weather was wild, but we managed to get out of the cars on a few occasions when the sun came out. The final part of the day was to head to Cruachan Pump Hydro Storage generator to have lunch and a guided tour of the facility. Built in the 1950’s it is an amazing feat of engineering and was a world leader in its day, demonstrating the use of natures abundant supply of water to generate and store electricity – something that is so relevant today as we move towards an energy system powered entirely by renewable energy.
After the visit we headed home refreshed and ready to take on the next challenges that come with developing renewable energy projects and striving, as our mission statement says, to build the infrastructure that ensures our customers can ‘transition away from fossil fuels’.
