Scottish Renewable Energy Festival – GreenPower Welcomes New Director

George Baxter joined GreenPower in August 2019 as Director of Development, having worked with energy utility group SSE for the previous 12 years, where he held the roles of Head of Development Strategy and Head of Strategic Relations. He has played a key role in delivering consents and overcoming stakeholder challenges growing an operational renewable portfolio to 3.8GW. George has extensive knowledge of a wide range of technologies and grid matters, having worked heavily on delivering the Beauly Denny powerline, Pumped Storage and Hydro and offshore developments.

Previous experience includes working in the Scottish Parliament with the Green Group of MSPs, and with environment NGOs WWF Scotland and Friends of the Earth Scotland, and so has a significant depth of knowledge of the political, policy and media sectors across all topics, but especially in energy and climate change. He is also a Scottish Renewables Board Director (serving since 2015). He has two grown up children and personal interests include playing bass guitar and going back to his original vocation as a woodworker doing DIY at home.
