Green Hydrogen

Green hydrogen is created by using sustainably sourced electricity to split hydrogen from water molecules, a process called electrolysis, that produces pure hydrogen with no toxic by-products.

Hydrogen can either be used directly as a fuel, or in an efficient fuel cell to produce electricity to power vehicles. It is better for heavy vehicles than batteries – due to its higher energy density and is significantly faster at re-fuelling than charging batteries

GreenPower is pioneering the development of green hydrogen production, distribution and supply, and working with customers to help them make the move to clean, green hydrogen fuel.

Context

Green hydrogen can replace fossil fuels used in transport, heating applications and industrial processes, which together make up nearly 75% of our total energy use. It can be locally produced, improving energy independence, security and stabilising energy prices for consumers.

Expertise

Green Hydrogen production at scale is relatively new, and GreenPower is leading the way in developing and designing the necessary infrastructure, with a growing hydrogen business and the recently consented and approved Argyll Hydrogen Hub in Oban as our first major step into this sector, with additional projects in development in Central Scotland and Moray. We are developing a network of production and distribution facilities across the UK.
