Future in motion – GreenPower at Powering Futures Live 2026
Hope and enthusiasm for a sustainable future Scotland is very much alive and kicking in the shape of the Powering Futures initiative which GreenPower is proud to support. After a year-long journey over 2,000 of the brightest young talents from across 100 schools in Scotland came together in March 2026 to present their group projects as part of their SCQF Level 6 Powering Futures Schools Challenge qualification. The qualification is aimed at developing critical thinking skills, real-world problem solving and innovation.
Live events were held across the country at nine venues including Hampden Park and Murrayfield, with panels of industry experts observing and providing feedback on the final presentations. GreenPower was delighted to support the events with two of our younger Development team members, Nick Fennell and Eddie Narbett, acting as judging panellists.
Throughout the morning session at Murrayfield, Eddie provided feedback to groups presenting their proposed solution to a range of real-world problems set by the Powering Futures business partners. These challenges included how to support a more sustainable Scottish fishing industry, repurposing end-of-life shipping containers for new community initiatives, and design of a town using new low-carbon heat technologies.

Eddie, attending his first Powering Futures event, commented: “It was inspiring to see the teams display such passion and enthusiasm using creative, sustainable solutions. Presenting in front of industry specialists as well as your peers is not an easy thing to do, but I thought the students did exceptionally well.”
Nick attended the event at Stirling Innovation Park: “Having attended Powering Futures Live events in 2024 and 2025, it’s fantastic to see the continued growth of the programme, expanding into new territories across Scotland over the past few years. It was a privilege to be a part of the main event on presentation day and to see just how engaged and enthusiastic these young people are.
“Scotland has thousands of jobs available within clean, green and sustainable industries, and initiatives like The Schools Challenge programme do an excellent job in helping to support and develop students for these jobs of the future. Whatever career or interests they choose to pursue – we hope to see many of them join us in the renewables industry over the coming years!’
