Wind Power Enthusiasts Gather in Oban

GreenPower was delighted to support the Clipper Round The World Race 25-26 as it sailed into Oban this week for a stopover and a week of events in and around the town. The ten 70 foot ocean racing yachts, are on their last leg of a 40,000 nautical mile race around the world, using the power of the wind. Teams had just completed the Atlantic crossing leg of the race, the penultimate leg, from Washington DC to Oban.

As a local business operating the Carraig Gheal Wind Farm and developing a green hydrogen fuel hub in Oban, GreenPower supported the Clipper organisation, and the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), the oldest marine science establishment in the world, to put on an event that introduced an international initiative aimed at sustaining best environmental practice at sea and around the coast.

GreenPower Director George Baxter said: “What an inspirational event to support. A commitment to environmental stewardship and working together across sectors can be very powerful and we were delighted to support the efforts by sponsoring the event at SAMS.”

“The Clipper Race isn’t recreation, this is full on endurance and sporting skill, in what can be treacherous conditions, harnessing the power of our abundant natural resource, the wind. Come on Team Scotland for the last leg!”
