Neven Point Wind Farm

The north of Scotland has some of the best wind resource in Europe and the Orkney island of Eday is no exception. The proposed Neven Point Wind Farm project is located on Greentoft Farm on the southern edge of Eday.

GreenPower acquired the development project in June 2022 and, following detailed assessment work, reduced the 8-turbine proposal to a 6-turbine design. A public exhibition was held in August 2022 to gather community feedback to help shape and inform the design. Further assessment work and stakeholder feedback has now resulted in a 5-turbine proposal presented to the community in November 2024.

Project Background

The Neven Point Wind Farm project is located on Greentoft Farm land on the southern edge of Eday and was initially mooted in 2018 as a 10-turbine proposal. Following initial feasibility work, the design was reduced to an 8-turbine proposal, and a Scoping Report setting out the proposed scope of environmental survey work was submitted to Orkney Islands Council in 2019.

Planning for the proposed wind farm was submitted in June 2025 and can be viewed on the Orkney Islands Council website under the application reference: 25/203/TPPMAJ.

The project could deliver between £156,000 and £195,000 per year in community benefit for the operational lifetime of the project. The exact amount will depend on the total capacity of turbines installed.

To facilitate the wind farm’s construction, we propose building a separate landing point adjacent to the existing pier. This ensures that the existing pier and ferry service will be able to operate as usual.

Planning for the proposed landing point (reference 25/302/PPMAJ), and a marine licence application (00011446), were both submitted in September 2025. The planning application can be viewed on the Orkney Islands Council website and the marine licence application can be accessed via the Marine.gov.scot website.

Works Licence granted for new landing point

GreenPower is pleased to receive the approval of a Works Licence by Orkney Islands Council on Wednesday 25th March 2026. The Works Licence is a requirement to construct and operate the new proposed landing point on Eday, which will provide sea access for the construction of Neven Point Wind Farm.

The Works Licence was granted by the Council in its role as Harbour Authority, demonstrating the proposal’s compliance with the Orkney County Council Act 1974. The planning applications for the landing point and the wind farm itself are subject to separate determination.
