Energy Ireland conference 2026
Sam Layton, Lead Development Manager, from GreenPower attended the Energy Ireland conference in Croke Park, Dublin last week (17th and 18th June), gaining valuable insight into the current opportunities and challenges shaping Ireland’s renewable energy sector.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Energy Ireland brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders for two days of insightful presentations, engaging panel discussions, and valuable networking opportunities. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals and discuss both the challenges and opportunities facing Ireland’s energy transition.
A key theme t hroughout the event was Ireland’s journey from a country heavily reliant on fossil fuels towards a future powered by renewable energy sources while promoting electrification. Similar to Scotland, Ireland faces challenges around planning processes and the delivery of new infrastructure, with one of the biggest constraints being the ageing electricity grid.
It was encouraging to see EirGrid committing significant investment through its PR6 programme (2026–2030), with €18.9 billion planned to support the future development and resilience of Ireland’s energy network which will help unlock renewable generation.
Sam Layton commented: “It was great to attend Energy Ireland and hear directly from industry experts about the challenges and opportunities ahead. The scale of investment planned in grid infrastructure is a positive step forward and highlights the importance of collaboration as we work towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.”
Overall, the event provided a valuable insight into Ireland’s renewable ambitions and reinforced the importance of sharing knowledge and working together across the industry but also between countries.
