Tackling the Big Issues: Ken Muir Awards 2026
On 1st June, GreenPower was delighted to join over 50 young people from across Scotland at Stirling University for the second annual Ken Muir awards hosted by Powering Futures. The Award recognises one pupil at each school who has demonstrated outstanding personal growth, effort, and resilience in completing the ‘School Challenge’. Parents, educators and business partners were also in attendance to join the celebrations.
The ‘Ken Muir Award’ is an integral part of the ‘Powering Futures Schools Challenge’, which GreenPower has sponsored and provided mentors to for the past three years. The ‘Schools Challenge’ encourages participants to tackle real-world problems set by partner businesses. This year challenges included developing innovative solutions to delivering equipment to remote areas of Scotland whilst protecting local communities and the environment; and creating a school programme of experiences and events to allow students to explore clean energy careers and connect with employers.
Speaking at the event, award patron Professor Kenneth Muir CBE, said: “Achievement isn’t always measured in marks or grades – it’s also found in moments of growth, grit and self-discovery.”
Nick Fennell, Development Manager and Laura Stasyte HR Manager were representing GreenPower at the event and Nick said:
“I am delighted to be here today to recognise the hard work and commitment the winners of the Awards have shown to tackling some big issues facing our planet. I have been involved in mentoring Oban High School pupils over the last three years and have always come away inspired by their commitment and determination. Our future is in safe hands”
“The confidence, communication, and problem-solving skills pupils acquire through the programme are wonderful to see. Well done to all involved in the Powering Futures Challenge.” – Laura Stasyte.
