Turning Talk into Action

On Thursday 18th June 2026, Richard Beedell and Steven Riley, both Technical Project Managers at GreenPower Hydrogen took part in the annual hydrogen workshop led by the Scottish Hydrogen Innovation Network (SHINe). Now in its second year, the workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders united by a shared ambition ‘to accelerate the use of clean hydrogen technologies in Scotland’.

SHINe aims to help Scottish and international companies access Scotland’s research and development centres (both academic and commercial) to improve collaboration within Scotland’s hydrogen sector.

Participants were encouraged to share practical experience and insights on :

hydrogen off‑takers (e.g. exploring the use of hydrogen in combustion engines as well as fuel cells, possible uses of the oxygen byproduct, etc),

planning and consenting (e.g. enabling more effective grid connections for hydrogen projects), and

integration of demonstration projects (e.g. promoting sharing data between the various European hydrogen valleys).

What stood out most was the openness with which organisations engaged in collective problem‑solving.

Beyond the structured sessions, the workshop offered valuable time for networking. With Scotland’s hydrogen sector expanding rapidly, these connections are becoming increasingly important.

Richard said “collaboration is going to be the key to unlocking the potential of hydrogen to the UK economy.  Today’s event was a great opportunity to do just that.

Steven and I look forward to continuing our engagement with SHINe and for GreenPower continue to play a key role in Scotland’s growing reputation for hydrogen innovation.
