Neven Point Wind Farm – Supplementary information pack submitted to Orkney Island Council

GreenPower is pleased to issue an update on the Neven Point Wind Farm as further work was carried out on the project and submitted to the council’s planning department last week.

A number of clarifications and supporting documents have recently been provided at the request of Orkney Islands Council, to assist with the ongoing consideration of the project. These documents are available to view on the GreenPower project website and residents of Eday have also been updated by letter.

Sam Layton, Senior Project Manager said: “In providing this information and clarifications, we hope this provides further reassurance that the project will be a positive one for people, the climate and for the economy. A key objective is to deliver meaningful benefits for Eday, including local work and business opportunities, reduced energy bills for residents and enhancements for wildlife and habitats.

“There will also be a further consultation separate to the planning process on community benefits, to  include an offer for community use of the land at the Stackald property now owned by GreenPower at the pier, and we welcome ongoing input from the community. The feedback so far, to directly cut energy costs for the people of Eday, is one that we have previously agreed to.”

Highlands and Islands Airports Limited have removed their objection in relation to instrument flight procedures at Kirkwall Airport, confirming that any aviation matters are able to be addressed through standard mitigation.

An updated noise assessment confirms the conclusions presented in the original Environmental Impact Assessment which found that noise from the proposed battery would be negligible and that no significant effects on Eday residents are anticipated.

Further ecological survey work has been undertaken on the site, indicating no evidence of bat roosting was identified within the buildings on site.

Overall, the update continues to support the conclusions previously presented for the Neven Point Wind Farm and indicates that no significant additional environmental effects are anticipated.

GreenPower has also provided an assessment of the indicative grid route between the wind farm and proposed grid connection point. This concludes that, when mitigated, no significant environmental effects are anticipated. GreenPower instructed the assessment of these potential effects at this stage to provide as much information as possible to the planning authority, consultees and the local community. Further work on potential access upgrade works that may be required to facilitate abnormal load deliveries also concludes that no significant environmental effects are anticipated, either on their own or in combination with the project.
