GreenPower Calls for Climate Emergency Planning Reforms

GreenPower has submitted a response to the Scottish Government’s ‘position statement’ consultation, calling for a significant policy shift to enable onshore wind and solar to play their full part in meeting 2030 climate change targets as required by law.  Among the measures GreenPower proposes is to immediately add much more significant material weight to the planning balance in decision making in favour of the climate emergency – rather than wait till 2022 as currently proposed. Solar merits no mention in the Scottish Government paper and should be rectified, and policy should enable the deployment of modern standard wind turbines – moving away from the current overtly negative landscape-led approach which is out of step with public opinion and disproportionate to the threat posed by climate change.
