GreenPower, a family-owned renewable energy company who have been based in Alloa since 2000 saw an article in the Alloa Advertiser asking for financial support towards the repair of the Clackmannan Hall roof and were keen to help. This well loved and much used Hall, built 40 years ago was badly in need of repair. The users of the Hall were delighted when GreenPower offered them £5,000 to help towards the £24,000 cost of the repair.
It then fell to the various clubs who used the Hall to help raise the remaining funds needed to do the repairs.
Another local family, this time a roofing business, Willie McEwen’s & Sons LTD based in Glenochil, Tullibody, successfully tendered and won the contract to do the work.
Rob Forrest, CEO of GreenPower said:
“We recognise the vital role this Hall plays in the community, providing a place for young people to gather, enjoy learning new skills, have fun and make new friends. Having met some of the dedicated volunteers who give their time to run clubs, events and activities in the Hall we are delighted to have been able to help them replace the roof and extend the life of the Hall.”
Taking advantage of the good weather earlier in the year, the whole roof replacement took McEwen’s team 8 days to get the scaffolding up, remove the old slates and put new roof tiles on.
Hopefully the Hall will continue to be used for many more years though no doubt future maintenance and refitting the interior will be the next project the users of the hall will need to focus on.
