Fordoun Wind Turbine
Fordoun is a single wind turbine located on a former RAF airfield near Laurencekirk in Aberdeenshire, which is owned by and asset managed by GreenPower. It is an 500kW EWT direct drive turbine with a tip height of 77m. Following planning consent in 2014, the unexpected and welcomed opportunity of the immediate availability of a wind turbine gave GreenPower a challenging construction schedule. This began on 6th October 2014 and was completed by 20th November 2014. The presence of unexploded ordnance was also a risk as the site was a former WWII airfield. GreenPower contracted 6 Alpha Associates to carry out an assessment of the site which was declared all clear. The turbine became operational on 15th December 2014.
Project details
GreenPower project managed the construction phase which began in 2014 contributing to an accelerated roll out of renewables in the UK. Next to the operational wind turbine GreenPower has successfully applied for planning consent of up to 1.5MWp of ground mounted solar PV. The solar PV will utilise the existing grid connection used for the wind turbine.
