A thank you to North Argyll locals who attended the Barachander Wind Farm exhibitions

Local wind farm developer and operator GreenPower hosted the second suite of drop-in events for the proposed Barachander Wind Farm in north Argyll last week and has expressed its thanks to local people who took the time to attend. For those unable to attend, the exhibition and all materials are available on the GreenPower website.

The first drop-in event was held back in October 2023, and the project team has worked hard to deliver a final proposal which utilises Argyll’s natural wind resource, whilst delivering significant and tangible benefits to local residents and businesses. The sessions were held across three days, in Portsonachan, Taynuilt and Kilchrenan.

Sam Layton, lead project manager said: “It was a pleasure to provide an update to local residents about the project and to have such constructive discussions. We have already made changes to the layout in direct response to feedback from the community, and it was encouraging to see these welcomed. As the project develops, we will continue to work closely with the community, building on the strong relationship established through the Barachander sister project, the neighbouring Carraig Gheal wind farm.”

The project, if consented, will bring significant and tangible benefits to the local area. GreenPower has a strong track record in working with local businesses to provide products and services and is committed to continuing this for the Barachander project.  The community benefit fund equating to an estimated £325,000 per year, can be used to tackle issues of importance to local communities and consultation on how the fund will operate is ongoing. GreenPower has also expressed openness to exploring schemes such as community shared ownership whereby local communities can buy a stake in the project.

The exhibition can be viewed online via the Barachander project website: https://greenpowerinternational.com/current-projects/barachander-wind-farm/

The deadline for submitting feedback is Monday 15th September. Responses received by this date will be taken into account as part of the current stage of the pre-application.

GreenPower would like to thank all residents for their ongoing engagement. A special thank you must also go to local suppliers Kilchrenan Inn and Karina Oszanca-James (CROMKA Bake & Dine) for providing catering services during the events.
