Last week staff from GreenPower attended the official launch of Enercon’s new E175 wind turbine at Edinburgh Zoo. Representing GreenPower were Sam Layton (Lead Development Manager), Nick Fennell (Development Manager) and Somesh Dhandapani (Renewables Analyst).
The event showcased Enercon’s latest innovations in turbine design, delivery, erection, and maintenance, with a focus on the company’s smart technology and commitment to advancing efficiency.
Somesh explained “There was a live demo of their in-house modelling software which I found interesting as it will help determine on site suitability. The turbine itself does not have a gearbox, and they have made it slightly modular for easier transport. The chance to ask questions of the manufacturer added to the usefulness of the day”
GreenPower is already modelling the E175 for a number of sites, particularly those with lower wind resources, enabling wider deployment and contributing to renewable energy targets.
The day combined technical insight with lighter moments, as GreenPower staff also took the opportunity of being in the zoo to make a brief detour to visit Haggis, a pygmy hippo.
