GreenPower and Thrive Renewables are delighted to announce that planning consent has now been approved by West Lothian Council for the amendment to the three turbine Drumduff Wind Farm Extension.

The consented changes to the development consist of:
- The two northern turbines increasing from 149.9 m up to a maximum 180 m tip height
- The one southern turbine increasing from 135 m up to a maximum 149.9 m tip height
The development is an extension to the existing Drumduff Wind Farm located north of Blackridge, West Lothian, and will deliver additional generation capacity of up to 17 megawatts (MW). This will bring the overall Drumduff Wind Farm to 6 turbines and the combined onsite generation capacity up to approximately 23 MW.
Rob Forrest, GreenPower CEO said: “We are delighted to obtain approval from West Lothian Council. This consent will double the number of turbines, but quadruple the generating capacity, which is a testament to the increased efficiency and power of modern turbine design. Together with the existing Drumduff Wind Farm, we believe the extension will be an asset to the local area, helping to support the local economy as well as actively contribute towards Scotland’s, and the UK’s, renewable energy targets.”
Nick Fennell, Project Manager added: “I would like to record my sincere thanks to all our partners and stakeholders who engaged with us as we developed the project – to get it right and to overcome challenges along the way. We now look forward to construction and tailoring our approach to maximise community benefits and local business opportunities that will make a real and lasting difference.”
Matthew Clayton, Thrive Renewables CEO said: “Situated on the site of an old open cast coal mine, Drumduff wind farm is a powerful example of Scotland’s energy transition in action. The extension will maximise the efficiency of the site to help meet growing demand for clean energy – supporting the UK’s climate targets whilst ensuring local people continue to benefit from the project. We are delighted to continue to grow our collaboration with GreenPower.”
The changes to the project will provide for maximum flexibility so that the most modern and economically viable turbines suited to the site can be utilised.
The planning application and decision can be viewed on the West Lothian Council website under the application reference 0320/FUL/25.
